Day 1 Fly to Nairobi

 

Day 2

Transfer by light aircraft to Taita ranch where you will meet your photographic and wildlife guides. Time to freshen up and a light lunch will be followed by an interactive session on wildlife photography and photojournalism and an introduction to elephant biology. An optional, orientation game-drive is planned for the evening.

 

Day 3

An early morning rise and drive to one of numerous waterholes in search of elephant and a full morning of photography. Lunch will be back at the camp followed by a mid-day, optional interactive workshop on photographic field craft. Late afternoon will involve a game walk through the bush to a further waterhole where we will erect hides for an overnight stay. Opportunities for golden light and night photography.

 

Day 4

With the hides in place we will be well set for a full morning of photography. Mid-afternoon, we will be collected and return to camp for lunch and to freshen up. After lunch you will have the opportunity to join an interactive workshop on macro photography in the purpose built small-mammal and insect studio.

 

Day 5

A morning workshop on elephant / community issues, run by local conservationists and elephant experts, will be followed by a drive and visit to a local community affected by elephant presence. Talking to the local people will provide an opportunity to practice your skills in journalism. In the evening, we will run an optional interactive workshop on photographic field techniques.

 

Day 6

We rise before dawn to drive to the nearby Mwaluganje Elephant Sanctuary, in Shimba Hills. A full day’s photography and further opportunities to talk with elephant conservationists. Evening return to camp.

 

Day 7

A relaxing day for you to enjoy some time around camp and do your own thing. An optional interactive workshop aimed at helping you write photographic essays, research and approach magazine / newspaper editors and ultimately sell your work will run in the morning and an optional game drive will be arranged for the evening.

 

Day 8

Drive to the nearby Tsavo East National Park for a presentation from, and the chance to talk with, rangers from the Kenya Wildlife Service. Transfer to 4WD jeep to explore the Park and photograph its varied and abundant wildlife. Evening return to camp.

 

Day 9

Drive to the nearby Tsavo West National Park and enjoy a full day’s photography amid the abundant wildlife. Evening return to camp.

 

Day 10

An optional early morning game drive to a nearby waterhole will provide further photographic opportunities. Afternoon transfer to Nairobi by road and an overnight stay in Nairobi.

 

Day 11

You will be collected from your hotel and transferred to Nairobi International Airport for your return flight.
