2 Mt Kenya
SERENA MOUNTAIN LODGE
After
breakfast this morning, you drive to the north passing through rich Kikuyu
farmlands, pineapple and coffee plantations towards the second highest peak in
Africa, Mt. Kenya. Hidden in a quite forest glade within the Mt. Kenya Forest, Serena
Mountain Lodge offers the ultimate window on wild Africa. From the
privacy of your own room, a steady stream of shy and magnificent creatures is
drawn to the ancient waterhole. Located at 7,200 feet on the slopes of Mt.
Kenya, Serena Mountain Lodge is surrounded by a dense
rainforest that comes alive at dusk with a myriad of sounds that make the
African bush so special and exhilarating.
Just
two and a half hours from Nairobi, this stunning area is towered over by the
rocky peaks of Mt. Kenya and prides itself in having one of the most
consistently high records of big game ‘visits’ and sightings. Elephant,
buffalo, rhino and waterbuck are regular sights.
Each
of the 42 attractive bedrooms in the lodge is furnished with indigenous wood and
African art and each has a private shower and toilet. A specially built
"viewing bunker" connected to the lodge by a short tunnel offers
spectacular ground-level views of wildlife at the waterhole. A spacious verandah
also overlooks the waterhole where there is never a dull moment. Enjoy the
afternoon and evening keeping an eye on the waterhole which provides a drinking
source for herds of local game. Constantly towering on the horizon are the
majestic rocky peaks of nearby Mt. Kenya, providing dramatic photography
opportunities.
Time
permitting; you might enjoy an optional "walking safari" at Mountain
Lodge. This "walking safari" can be arranged directly at Mountain
Lodge and costs approximately $15.- p/p.

Day 3 LAKE NAKURU NATIONAL PARK
Today
you leave the majestic Kenyan highlands and drive toward the Great Rift Valley.
En route, you'll visit the Subukia Tea Factory for an in depth look at the
processing and a sampling of this beverage enjoyed by many. A BBQ lunch follows
at Subukia and then a short scenic drive to Lake Nakuru National Park. Created
in 1961, Lake Nakuru National Park is situated in a wonderland which lies in the
heart of one of Kenya's most densely animal populated wetland national parks and
in the midst of some of the most exciting scenery seen anywhere in Africa.
Like
most of the other Rift Valley lakes, Lake Nakuru is a shallow soda lake which
boasts the greatest ornithological spectacle on earth - flamingos! There is much
more to the park than just the lake though. Areas of grassland, bush, euphorbia
and acacia forest and rocky cliffs support hundreds of species of birds and
animals. One you'll see plenty of is warthog, with their amusing way of running
with their tails held upright like aerials. Right by the water you'll come
across waterbuck and buffaloes, while farther into the bush are Thomson's
gazelle and reedbuck - there's even the occasional leopard. Around the cliffs
you may catch sight of a hyrax and birds of prey. There is a small herd of hippo
that lives along the northern shore of the lake. In Nakuru, you'll enjoy an
afternoon game drive in this compact park, a haven for photographers.
As
the day draws to a close, you retreat to your lodge for a luxurious and
comfortable night's accommodation. Situated on the south east ecological niche
of the park is the Lake Nakuru Lodge, an oasis of comfort and
excellent service, with commanding views of the lesser Flamingo dotted with the
greater Flamingo for which Lake Nakuru is justly famous. It is another world for
the visitor, where one easily forgets the hustle and bustle of the city. The
lodge blends well with it’s surrounding and the animals often browse
peacefully close to the lodge and environs, much to the fascination of the
visitors.
At
the Lake Nakuru Lodge, there is excellent cuisine which
includes Outside catering, Bush Barbecue, African night and Sundowner.
Other
activities available from the lodge include a horse back safari excursion, bird
watching and plant identification.
After
a day’s game watching, the spacious logged Mama Nikki bar, the cool Upstairs
Rhino Paddock Cocktail Bar overlooking the Lake and the enticing blue swimming
pool can be particularly inviting. Evening entertainment and slide shows for
guests is interesting and varied.

Day 4 -
MASAI MARA NATIONAL PARK
The
route to the south west is scenic. Here, you will find the Masai Mara National
Park, perhaps the only region left in Kenya where visitors may see animals in
the same super abundance as existed centuries ago. With our bargaining power in
east Africa, we have created yet another first! On arrival you will be met and transferred to the Mara Serena
for your 2 night stay. Again all game viewing and meals are included.
An interpretation of a traditional Masai Manyatta village of domed huts, Mara
Serena Safari Lodge is set on the saddle of a hill where it overlooks the
1,800 square kms of rolling plains, woodlands and rivers that make up the
Masai Mara Triangle - one of the world's richest wildlife sanctuaries.
An architectural echo of the traditional Masai manyatta (village) of domed
huts, the guest rooms of Mara Serena are styled and arranged to blend into the
natural landscape. Every room is an individual "hut" - spread out to
give each one uninterrupted views of the plains, the meandering riverine
forest and the silhouetted hills beyond. The view from the pool and
surrounding decks is also a panorama of the spectacular plains of the Mara.
Although not Kenya's largest park, the Mara, as the Kenyans call it, is
undoubtedly its best known and contains great concentrations of wildlife.
Covering an area in excess of 1,800 sq km (almost 700 sq miles) it was
established in 1961 and adjoins the Serengeti in Tanzania forming the northern
end of the great migration ecosystem. This is the traditional land of the
Masai people, nomadic herders who choose a traditional lifestyle and who are
permitted to graze their cattle in the area.
The park's habitats include the forests along the banks of the Mara and Talek
Rivers, acacia forests and open savannah. These various habitats are home to a
great variety of game including lion, leopard, cheetah, zebra, wildebeest
(gnu), giraffe, buffalo, jackal, topi, gazelles, impala and elephant.
Hippopotamuses and crocodiles are plentiful in the rivers and the bird life is
also abundant. No less than 53 different species of birds of prey alone have
been recorded. From June through October you may see the annual migration as
hundreds of thousands of wildebeest and zebra move through the area in search
of fresh grass. Driven on, by those behind, the first animals ford the Mara
River. This perilous crossing undertaken by hordes of beasts is truly dramatic
- many of them drown, others are bogged down in the mud.

the experienced pilot ready to take you on the adventurous flight. No visit to
the Masai Mara can be complete without a trip in a hot air balloon! Taking off
in the beautiful early morning light you drift above the browsing game and have
tremendous opportunities for unusual photographs. At the end of the flight you
land on the plains where a deluxe champagne breakfast cooked on the balloon's
gas burners is served before you drive in a leisurely fashion with game viewing
on your way back to Serena Mara
After
dinner at Mara Serena, you leave in a custom built land-rover/jeep and

night present the best opportunity to see a whole new world of nocturnal animals

lion in their nightly hunts. You have a chance to see Leopard, white-tailed
Mongoose, Advaark, striped hyena, Springhare, Aardwolf, Bush baby, Civet cat,

Day
7 AMBOSELI NATIONAL PARK
Full day in Amboseli- Unlimited Game Drives
Arid
looking as Amboseli National Park is, it has historically supported both game
and the Maasai who have kept herd over their cattle in this region. It is with
thanks to the waters that run off of Africa’s great mountain that the
apparently dry Amboseli National Park, Kenya’s first game sanctuary, is able
to support its wildlife. Mt. Kilimanjaro broods high over Amboseli National
Park, generally cloaked by clouds but appearing in all it snow-shrouded
magnificence from time to time. Mt. Kilimanjaro was once a part of Kenya, but on
the marriage of Kaiser Wilhelm of Germany, Queen Victoria gifted it to her
beloved grandson whose colony Tanzania then was, as the perfect wedding gift.
The mountain now provides water Amboseli National Park, wonderful views and, of
course, the most glorious background for animal photography.
The
grasslands in the park can be undeniably lovely when made verdant by the rains
and the three major swamps could star in a dinosaur movie. The swamps to the
east of the park attract wildebeest, zebra and antelope as well as their
predators. In the south, Enkongo Narok swamp attracts hippos to the larger pools
and plenty of buffalo, buck and teeming birdlife including the jacanas that pick
their way elegantly and carefully. Giraffe are here and in areas still
sufficiently treed, there are leopard.
Today,
in the shadow of the Great White Mountain, you enjoy 3 game safari drives.
