The Ultimate Educational, Ecological, Cultural and Fun Experience!
There have been and are other Family Safaris, but no other appears to offer
such a wonderful opportunity for a whole family - from grandparents to children
to be able to interact with the culture, children and wildlife of Africa, and,
more importantly, to interact with each other in a superbly unique environment,
whilst enjoying the traditional fun and adventure of a Safari!
All the hotels and lodges featured are very children friendly , and the
arrangements for most days allow for the children to be taken care of by trained
animators and naturalists, whilst the adults can participate, or do other
things, as they wish. Air travel is used extensively to allow for more time for
fun and educational activities, and less time becoming agitated, tired and
restless on bumpy and dusty roads.
THIS Family Safari offers child discounts, even with the children in their
own room, thus avoiding the often cramped alternatives of two extra camp beds in
the parents' or grandparents' room!
Day 1:- (Saturday) - Nairobi - Safari Park Hotel
Arrive Nairobi and transfer to the Safari Park Hotel. The rest of the day
at leisure. Besides a great swimming pool and spacious grounds to explore, there
are games and other activities to keep children occupied, and there is a large
choice of restaurants.
Day 2:- (Sunday) - Nairobi - Giraffe Center
Morning visit to the Snake Park, and the Animal Orphanage, and then on to
Giraffe Center, where you may have the opportunity to feed the largest variety -
the Rothschild Giraffe, which can be six meters tall! The rest of the day at
leisure.
Day 3:- (Monday) - Samburu Game Reserve
Morning scheduled service flight (55 minutes) to the Samburu Game Reserve,
and interesting reserve, where you may see not only most of the BIG FIVE (Lion,
Leopard, Elephant, Buffalo and Rhino), but also animals unique to the area, like
the Gerenuk, Kudu, Grevy Zebra, Reticulated Giraffe and the Somali Ostrich.
There is also an excellent swimming pool, and good observation points along the
river frontage. Samburu Intrepids is a luxury tented lodge, and the spacious
tents are insect proof, with a fixed roof, and stand on firm raised bases
overlooking the river. Tents have electricity, and an en-suite shower and flush
toilet with hot (solar powered) water.
Activities Include:
Introduction to Samburu by your naturalist, a genuine Samburu Warrior. You
are then introduced to other families who may be staying, and given details of
the daily program. (This is of course a wonderful opportunity to interact with
people of other nationalities). An early morning game drive, and an afternoon
game drive in a 4x4 vehicle accompanied by an English speaking naturalist /
driver who permanently lives in Samburu, and is thus an expert on the area. A
visit to a Samburu Village, and a lecture on the Samburu People, and a chance to
meet the people - from the Village Elders to Warriors to young girls, who do
most of the work. You will also get the chance to buy Samburu crafts made by the
people you meet. A visit to a Samburu School in session (subject to school
holidays), and the chance to take part in lessons. A display of Samburu dancing,
where you are encouraged to participate. You will learn to throw a spear, and to
light a fire by rubbing sticks together, and other Samburu activities. A Nature
and Bird walk, where you also learn about Samburu medicines taken from plants
and trees. A lecture on the wildlife of Samburu. A short basic Kiswahili lesson.
A Sundowner treat as you watch the sun set spectacularly over the plains whilst
enjoying a drink and some snacks. A bush breakfast on the banks of the river.
Some free time for swimming, reading, or just watching and listening to Africa,
and enjoying making friends from around the world.
Day 4:- (Tuesday) - Samburu
Activities at Samburu.
Full Day in Samburu
Day 5:- (WED) - Masai Mara
Scheduled service (55 minutes) flight to Nairobi, then flight (55
minutes) to the Masai Mara Game Reserve, and the luxurious Mara Intrepids Tented
Lodge, where accommodation is similar to that at Samburu Intrepids. The Mara is
the Northern part of the Serengeti Ecosystem, and has the most prolific game in
Kenya, with a good chance to see Lions, Cheetahs, Buffaloes, Rhinos, Hyaenas and
thousands of plains game.
Your activities include:
Introduction to the Mara by your naturalists. Introduction to the Masai
culture by a genuine Masai Warrior. Introduction to other families, and given
details of the daily program. Early morning, morning and afternoon game
activities each day, with game drives in an open sided 4x4 vehicle, accompanied
by an English speaking naturalist / driver who lives permanently in the Mara,
and thus is an expert on the area. Animal tracking on foot along the river and
in the grounds, with the chance to make plaster casts of the prints you
discover. Access to the Lodge's wildlife museum. Specialist study of
butterflies. Display of Masai dancing. A bush breakfast on the banks of the
river, and some free time to use the swimming pool.
Day 6:- (Thurday)- Masai Mara
Activities in the Mara.
Day 7:- (Friday) Mara To Mombasa
After an early morning game activity and breakfast, you have a chance to
recap on all that you have learned on safari, and to bring your Adventurer Club
Book up to date. After lunch, a scheduled flight to Nairobi (55 minutes), and
connect with a scheduled flight to Mombassa (55 minutes).
On arrival you are transferred to the Voyager Beach Resort. The hotel is set
in very spacious grounds and gardens, and overlooks a glorious white sand,
gently shelving beach. There are 233 rooms, all with balcony or terrace, and
most have a view of the ocean. There are 3 swimming pools, a children's pool, a
waterslide, free non-motorized watersports, a jacuzzi, a games room, a fitness
center, a shopping arcade, many sports and games activities and 3 restaurants.
All meals, snacks, drinks (except premium spirits and vintage wines) are
included in the price.
A main attraction is that children are immediately taken care of by trained
animators. For example, there is a special supervised breakfast for the children
each day where the animators introduce new arrivals, and set out the activity
program for the day. In this way, all the children of different nationalities
all mix freely together, with no one feeling left out. The adults meanwhile can
lie in, and do their own thing. Activities will include educational as well as
recreational games, and also the chance to learn to scuba dive. There is the
only PADI 5 Scuba Diving School in Mombassa, situated right in the resort, and
there is a beginners course available around $65, which includes at least one
dive off the reef, as well as enough basic training for you to know how to dive!
Day 8:- (Saturday ) to Day 9:- (Monday) Mombasa
Two full days of activities at the Voyager Beach Resort
Day 10:- (Tueday)
Transfer for your onward or homeward arrangements.
